There’s no need to turn your oven on to cook potato waffles, using your toaster is simpler and produces golden, crispy waffles in a fraction of the time.
Follow these easy steps and serve up piping hot, crispy potato waffles, straight from frozen.
Where to buy potato waffles
Any major supermarket and most corner shops sell potato waffles. Branded ones, like Birds Eye, and supermarket own-brand only differ on price tag, the cook and taste are too similar to tell apart.
Luckily, those with a gluten intolerance are still able to eat potato waffles, as some are gluten-free.
How to cook potato waffles in a toaster
Step 1
Remove your potato waffles from the freezer and place into your toaster, one per slot. If you’ve got a two-slice toaster with extra long slots, you can fit two waffles into each side.
Step 2
Put the toaster down and select the “Defrost” button. If your toaster doesn’t have a defrost setting, turn the temperature to low (number one or two on the dial).
Step 3
Once the toaster pops, rotate the waffles then repeat step two.
Step 4
Once the toaster pops, turn the temperature up to medium (number three or four) and put it down again.
Step 5
When they pop up, check their progress. At this point, you can do one of two things:
- If they look like they’re beginning to turn golden, place them back in the toaster on high. Check their progress around halfway through. Remove as soon as they’re consistently golden across both sides.
- If they’re still pale and look a bit soggy, put them down on a medium heat again. After this cook they should stop looking like a disappointment and begin looking crisp. Once the potato waffle exteriors begin to look firm, crank the temperature up to five to finish them off. While toasting on high, be sure to check their progress as you don’t want them to burn.
Once your potato waffles are golden and crispy, serve them up and eat while hot
