Tesco raises price of lunch meal deal by 25p

In an unsurprising move, Tesco has raised the price of their lunch and premium meal deals, with the new prices effective from today, the 21st of August.

It follows competitor Sainsbury’s increasing their meal deal prices by 20 pence back in July. And since life is all about winning, Tesco topped them by 5p. From today, the price of a lunch meal deal without a Clubcard will cost you £4.25. Never fear, Clubcard holders, Tesco hasn’t forgotten about you – your loyalty will be rewarded with an equal 25p rise. Expect to pay £3.85 for your sandwich, drink, and snack from now on.

The premium meal deals aren’t unaffected, having been hit by their own premium price increase.

Non-members and members alike will see their receipts 50p pricier, with premium meal deals costing £6 and £5.50, respectively.

The products on offer remain unchanged, so at least shoppers can take comfort knowing they’re paying more for the same.

After the National Insurance tax rise in last year’s Budget, and Tesco reported to be facing an enormous increase in its NI £250m tax bill, it’s no surprise they’re trying to recoup the losses by charging customers more.

Unfortunately for them, the cost of living crisis has people trying their hardest to cut unnecessary expenses. And given the reaction on social media to this news, customers definitely aren’t happy about it.

Quite rightly so. It’s only a matter of time until more supermarkets follow suit.
