It might be nearing the end of summer, but that hasn’t stopped M&S launching ‘Arctic’ Colin the Caterpillar; a new frozen dessert made with chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate. Oh, and a bit of mascarpone.
M&S describes the new Arctic Colin as a “creamy chocolate and mascarpone dessert” filled with a layer of chocolate sponge and sauce. The milk chocolate coating, boots, face, ganache, and sugar-coated beans are exactly the same as you’ll find on the Colin we all know and love.

It’s an expensive pud. Arctic Colin would be more a treat than Vienetta felt in days of old. Be prepared to part with a whole £16 of your hard-earned cash, compared to the £9.50 you’ll pay for regular Colin.
When it comes to Caterpillar cake value outside of M&S’ stable, Arctic Colin takes Waitrose’s crown as the most expensive.
If you’re one of our diabetic readers, you’ll be interested to know Arctic Colin’s sugar content:
In Arctic Colin you’ll find 25.2g of sugar per 100g, around half that of normal, room-temperature Colin, whose 625g body contains 46.3g. No matter how thick you slice, you won’t be eating 100g of either in a single sitting.
For Arctic Colin, there’s not much in it – each slice is 96g and the sugar content is 24.1g. Even though the slices are bigger than the original Colin, the sugar content is lower. It’s by no means diabetic friendly, but when counting the carbs, you won’t have to count as high with a slice of Arctic Colin. (Normal Colin’s 63g slice contains 28.9g of sugar.)
If an expensive chocolate caterpillar is something you fancy buying, you can buy it in store at M&S or online at Ocado for £16.
