Asda meal deal, chicken fajita wrap, Disco crisp and blue Lucozade

Asda finally joins in with their first-ever lunchtime meal deal

1–2 minutes

At a time when other supermarkets are raising the price of their meal deals, it’s good to see Asda launching their first-ever meal deal at the lowest end of the price range.

From today (September 17), you’ll be able to pick main, a snack, and a drink from what Asda is calling their “Food To Go” meal deal. Well, the name gets no points for creativity, but at least Food To Go is very clear about what you’re getting and where you should eat it.

The Food To Go deal replaces the existing 3 for 2 deal, which wasn’t specifically for lunch items.

At £3.74, Asda’s offering knocks both Co-op and Morrisons off of their shared ‘cheapest meal deal’ pedestal. And, unlike Co-op and Morrisons, you don’t need a loyalty card for the lowest price – if you’re a member of either of those two, you’ll only need to pay £3.50 if you present your loyalty card at the till.

It is, therefore, important to note that Asda’s new meal deal is the cheapest around without a loyalty card.

So, what can you get at Asda for lunch?

Despite Asda bigging up the offering, proclaiming there will be “132 mains, 336 snacks and 222 drinks” to choose from, when we had a look, there wasn’t much difference compared to other supermarkets.

In reality, Asda’s Food To Go meal deal is more the same: sandwiches, wraps, pasta salads, crisps, cold meats, snack bars, chocolate bars, biscuits, soft and fizzy drinks.

It joined the competition to beat them on price, not on exciting food stuff. But, if Asda is your local supermarket, then you’ll be happy to finally be able to buy a cut-price lunch.
