It’s party season, which means lots of picky bits and party food. Mozzarella sticks are having a bit of a moment and can be found down every supermarket’s freezer section.
The one thing missing on most packs of mozzarella sticks is air fryer cooking instructions. Oven time and temperature, yes. Air fryer, no.
As air fryers are found in nearly every kitchen in the country, it would be handy to know how to cook picky bits in them. In this article, we’ve done the testing for you and found out the best way to cook mozzarella sticks in an air fryer.
Step 1 – Make sure your mozzarella sticks aren’t designed for a deep fat fryer. There are, as we’ve found out, cheese sticks that aren’t suitable for an oven, let alone an air fryer. If the pack has oven instructions, they’ll be fine to crisp in an air fryer.
Cooking time and temperature

This is highly dependent on which mozzarella sticks you buy. For reference, we determined the cooking times in this article using Asda’s party mozzarella sticks (12 in a box).
Now, the box does say “Not suitable for air frying”, but we couldn’t think of any reason that we couldn’t cook cheese and breadcrumbs in what is essentially a small oven. So we did it anyway.
The oven instructions were 200C for nine minutes. We chose 180C for 10 minutes.
- Temperature: 180C
- Time: 10 minutes
How to cook mozzarella sticks in an air fryer

- Set your air fryer to its Air Fry setting
- Change the temperature to 180C and set the time as 10 minutes
- Put your mozzarella sticks in the basket and start the cooking process
- Roll the sticks over halfway through
- When the time is up, serve and eat while hot. You should get a nice cheese pull as well
