You might hear the name J2O and immediately be transported back to being a child at a pub, but the brand has just launched a sparkling range for adults as an alcohol-free alternative to keep up with the changing market.
As alcohol sales among young adults keeps dropping, the range of zero and low alcohol alternatives is steadily rising. The new range is sold in 225ml cans (like their mocktail range) or in 275ml bottles (the same size as their still range).
While the new Spritz range doesn’t feature J2O’s popular Orange & Passionfruit, it does have flavour combos that produce a pale pink liquid to make it look like sparkling wine. Choose between Pear and Raspberry or Apple and Watermelon.
Carly Sims, socialising brand director at Carlsberg Britvic, said: “With J2O Sparkling, we’ve taken what consumers already know and love about J2O’s unique taste and given it a fresh, sparkling twist, creating a premium option that feels right for everyday get-togethers, relaxing evenings at home or special moments worth celebrating.”
The new J2O Spritz drinks have been launched ahead of the warmer seasons, ready for garden parties and BBQs. But how much do they cost and where can they be bought?
You can get the new flavours in some UK supermarkets, like Tesco, Ocado, Asda and Sainsbury’s, as well as on Amazon.
Looking at the prices, a four pack of cans on Amazon will cost you £3.50. We think that’s quite cheap, considering.
Now, for our diabetic readers, let’s take a look at how much sugar the new range contains:
- Apple and Watermelon: 275ml bottle = 12.93g; 225ml can = 10.58g
- Pear and Raspberry: 275ml bottle = 10.73g; 225ml can = 8.78g
The Pear and Raspberry, for whatever reason, contain an average of 2g less sugar than the Apple and Watermelon. In having a lower sugar quantity, the calorie count for the Pear & Raspberry is also lower.
Thinking about the calorie content of drinks isn’t something many people consider, however if you’re trying to lose weight or are using a weightloss jab like Mounjaro, knowing the calorie content is useful.
Per 275ml bottle, the Apple and Watermelon flavour has 55kcal with the Pear and Raspberry having a slightly lower 46.75kcal.
