After researching the new Baileys liqueur flavours for our article the other day, I discovered another new Baileys product: Chocolate Caramel Whirls.
Apparently, Baileys Chocolate Caramel Whirls hit the shelves in supermarkets in September, but I haven’t managed to find an exact release date. There are no whirls listed on the Baileys UK website, so you’d be forgiven for thinking they didn’t exist. And I found out why, as I’ll get onto later.
But, if you head to your local Sainsbury’s, Iceland, or Morrisons, you might be able to find them. We’ve checked in Sainsbury’s and Iceland to no success.
But what are Baileys Chocolate Caramel Whirls?
What are they?
As the name would suggest, they contain Baileys, Chocolate, and Caramel and are shaped like whirls.
If you cut one through the middle, it’s not too far off a walnut whip. A chocolate outer casing with a hint of Baileys, with a marshmallow centre and topped off with caramel. Unlike a walnut whip, there’s nothing on the outside. Everything is contained within the chocolate shell.
At the moment, you can buy a single whirl on its own for £1 at Sainsbury’s, or you can buy a pack of three for £2.50 at Iceland or Morrisons.
After digging deeper into the nutritional information for the next section of this article, we learned that they’re not actually a Baileys product – the logo and word ‘Baileys’ are being used “under license”. I can’t find which company has licensed their use, but if I do manage to find out, I’ll come back and update this page. It’s not too dissimilar from Baileys Double Cream, which is also produced by a licensee, rather than Baileys itself.
Sugar content
Unsurprisingly for a treat made with caramel and marshmallow, these whirls are packed full of sugar.
Per 100g, you’ll find 63g of carbs – 56g of which are sugar. Over half!
An individual whirl weighs 24g, putting the sugar content per whirl at 13.44g.
What other Baileys products are there?
There are plenty of other products containing Baileys if the whirls don’t float your boat. The list below contains a mix of Baileys-own products and those using the name and logo under license.
You can also try:
- Baileys Original chocolate truffles
- Baileys peanuts and cashews chocolate
- Baileys almond chocolate
- Baileys squirty cream
- Baileys cream milk chocolate
- Baileys sea salt and caramel fudge
- Baileys chocolate caramel filled buttons
- Baileys Carte D’Or ice cream
Or just stick to a bottle of Baileys liqueur. (We’re on the hunt for the new Terry’s Chocolate Orange flavour to try… We still haven’t found it!)
