Three slices of bacon on the George Foreman grill

How to cook bacon on an indoor grill

1–2 minutes

Barbecue weather is fickle in the Great British Isles, so cracking out your indoor grill is a great way to get that summer feeling without having to brave the elements.

You’re most probably reading this to learn how to cook bacon on your indoor grill for a breakfast butty or a fry up, but you might also be wanting to add bacon to your double cheeseburgers. If you’re going for bacon with your brekkie, it might also be helpful to know how you use your indoor grill to cook sausages as well. But here, let’s just stick to bacon.

Method for cooking bacon

For my guide, I used a 20-year-old George Foreman that’s still going strong, but the cooking controls on your grill may vary.

  1. Preheat your grill to 204C (High or 400F) for 5 minutes and position the grease trap under the front of the grill to catch any drips
  2. Lay your bacon slices on the grill (lay them across the grooves to get those juicy-looking griddle lines)
  3. Set the timer to four minutes and close the grill
  4. Press the lid down occasionally to drain the fat, skip this step if you’re not overly concerned about your cholesterol – or if you have a stinking hangover
  5. When the timer beeps, flip your bacon and set the timer for a further two minutes and go again
  6. All done! If you prefer your fat extra crispy, cook for a further couple of minutes

To catch all of that bacon-y flavour, you can also place your buttered bread face-down in the grill for a minute or two. Move your bacon to one side to make space while also keeping it warm. Don’t close the lid, mind you, or you’ll end up with greasy fingers while eating your sandwich.
